Buttercup’s Retreat

Buttercup's Retreat

Our brand-new cabin in Tahoe sleeps 8-10 people and is located in Serene Lakes in Soda Springs, just off of I-80, 15 minutes west of Truckee. The drive from the Bay Area (depending on traffic) is about: San Francisco ~3 hours, Peninsula 3.5 to 4.5 hours, East Bay 2.5 to 3.5 hours.

Serene Lakes is a small community surrounding two natural alpine lakes and is a great retreat for year-round fun. The cabin is about ~100 feet from the Tahoe National Forest with hiking trails for summer and cross-country skiing in the winter. Downhill skiing is minutes away:

Royal Gorge: 2 minutes
Soda Springs: 3 minutes
Sugar Bowl: 10 minutes
Boreal: 10 minutes
North Star: 20 minutes
Squaw Valley: 30 minutes
Alpine Meadows: 30 minutes

A small country grocery store is 3 minutes away on Donner Pass Road in Soda Springs. Safeway, Starbucks, and other amenities are 15 minutes away in Truckee.

The cabin is brand new and was just finished this past spring. It features a full cook’s kitchen with a gas range, dishwasher, oven, and microwave. It is fully stocked with cook’s tools including electric water kettle, toaster, rice cooker, magic bullet blender, Kitchenaide mixer, and Cuisinart. Cabin has forced air heating.

As a guest of this cabin, you have access to the Homeowners’ Beach which is a great place for summer fun and to let the kids dig in the sand while you sit at one of the picnic tables in the shade. Canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddle-boards are all allowed on these lakes (motorcraft are not). The quiet flat-ish streets around the lake are great for walking or biking around.  The cabin is on Tamarack Way and is about four blocks from the lake and a walk or quick bike ride to the Homeowners’ Beach on Serene Road.
